Hi Guys,
Welcome to the first ever Elfredo Kids Club newsletter! I will
be sending you one every new season and seeing as Summer has
just started I thought I had better let you know what I have
been up to and what is coming up at the herb farm!

|
Elfredo's Herb Hero - Calendula
|
At the
herb farm we have some amazing calendulas
growing just out the front of the shop.
They have bright orange flowers which look just
like the sun. Now the calendula is a fantastic herb
for helping us heal and it is used in many of our
creams and oils here at the herb farm. |
 |
The calendula is very easy to grow. You could even plant it in
a pot yourself, all you have to do is place the seeds on top of
the soil about 10 inches apart, sprinkle some soil on top and
they should start growing within a couple of weeks.
Don’t worry if you want to pick the flowers once they have
bloomed it’s ok because they will grow back very quickly, just
don’t pick them all at once.
If you have cut yourself you can plaster a calendula
leaf onto your cut and this will help stop the bleeding
and heal! Nature's Magic!

|
There are lots of things happening at the herb farm very soon,

visit us.

Make your Own Christmas Decorations
|
It’s
nearly time to put up the Christmas tree and I
like to make my own decorations for the
tree.
I have written down some instructions on how to
make a couple that look very pretty.
Check out the picture - I have my own special
Christmas Decorations this year! |
 |
Pipe Cleaner Decoration
You need pipe cleaners and even beads. Take the
colourful pipe cleaners and create shapes to wrap
around the Christmas tree or to hang from
branches. Ideas are only limited by your imagination.
Combine with beads - use thread and make stars, diamonds,
angels......
Twinkle Twinkle Litle Star
Make stars from wool felt, cardboard covered with foil or
painted silver or gold or even use match-sticks.
Have silver stars and gold stars, or try blue and gold.
Have big and small ones so it looks like the tree is covered
with a constellation of stars.
|
Well my friends I have
to go and find a good spot to have a picnic.
I hope you enjoyed the newsletter and have a go at all the things I
wrote in there for you. I hope to see you out at the herb farm some
time during the school holidays.
Luckily I have my two helpers at the herb farm, Zeke and Marli
(pictured) and they make sure all my spellings right before I send
this to you! |
 |
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New
Year.

I love the planet - help me help it!
|
|
One thing that I take very seriously is looking after our
planet. I live in nature at the herb farm and so do lots
of my friends, so we all need to do our part and look
after our environment by recycling. This sign
here is very important, you have to tell your mums and dads and
brothers and sisters and aunties and uncles and even your pets
all about it.
It is the sign for recycling so if it is on a wrapper or on a
bottle you’re drinking from, you know that it can be recycled
and you should keep pop it in the recycling so it is not
wasted.

|
FACT:
Did you know that you can run a TV for 6 hours
on the same amount of electricity that is saved
by you taking and recycling just one aluminum
can?
FACT:
That just by recycling one
glass bottle, you can save enough electricity
to light up a 100-watt
bulb for 4 hours.
Every time I throw something in the recycling
bin I have a little spell I say to make sure my
bottle or can is not wasted -
“Ala-ka-zala-ka-zoo! Turn my bottle into
something new!”
If you want to make sure your recycling gets
done, you can use my spell whenever you
like.

Check out my word find game!
|
|
Check out my fun recycling
'word
find' game on our website - print it
out and see how many words you can find. You
could time yourself or have
a race with friends or your brother
or sister too! Even challenge Mum
and Dad - it's always fun to beat
them.
