FACE OILS VS. FACE SERUMS - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

FACE OILS VS. FACE SERUMS - WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?

Face oils and serums can sometimes be confused for one another, but are they the same?

While face oils and face serums are similar in that they are both liquid skincare products designed to help improve skin texture and appearance, they are in fact quite different! Face serums are typically water based and therefore light in weight while face oils on the other hand, are often (you guessed it) oil based and are thicker.

The difference in their composition and consistencies enable them to penetrate skin and target skin concerns effectively in their own way.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FACE OIL?

Face oils have been used for thousands of years - since the days of Cleopatra! Ancient Egyptians used a variety of plant-based oils on their skin to fight wrinkles and preserve their youth.

Our Face oils are plant based and can include oils extracted from nuts, fruits and seeds as well as powerful essential nutrients, fatty acids and antioxidants. The magic of face oils lies in their ability to mimic the skins natural sebum production, helping to create a barrier of protection for your skin. A well-balanced face oil can dissolve grease, sebum, or makeup without stripping your skin of its natural oils.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF FACE SERUM?

Face serums are often water based and due to their light consistency, can penetrate the skin much quicker and deeper than heavier lotions and creams. Due to their lightweight, serums absorb quickly and can therefore be used in both your morning and evening.

Face serums are intensive skin treatments to target skin concerns and boost skin health. They offer concentrated amounts of key ingredients that create powerful results for specific skin care needs. While they are not designed to replace your moisturiser, they can be very beneficial as a boost to your current skin care routine.

Our Facial Serums are packed with powerful herbal ingredients designed to target a variety of skin concerns such as signs of ageing, pigmentation and more.

CAN YOU USE THEM TOGETHER?

Using face oils and serums in your everyday skin care routine will improve the overall health and appearance of your complexion. The two can be used on their own as a singular beauty treatment or can work really well when layered to address a number of skin concerns at once!

TIPS FOR USING FACE OIL AND FACE SERUM

  1. Apply your face oils and serums by massaging them into your skin. This helps to improve circulation by delivering a dose of oxygen, waking your skin up and giving your complexion a healthy, radiant glow.
  1. Serum should be the first product applied after cleansing, exfoliating and toning. Lighter serums will be easily and more quickly absorbed, while face oils seal in the ingredients. Applying a face cream or oil creates a barrier over your skin so you always want to ensure you apply serum first!
  1. Avoid applying face oils and serums under your eyes. They aren’t designed to use on the sensitive, thinner skin under your eyes. It is better to apply face oils and serums on the rest of your face and use an eye cream that’s made specifically for that area.
